Before Baba’s Kitchen, there was Indian food.
The Indian restaurant sector in Ho Chi Minh City was little in the early 2000s. At the time, just a few eateries served Indian cuisine. Customers who sought Indian food should go to the Pham Ngu Lao neighbourhood. Several restaurants served similar Indian foods like biryani and samosa, but not to the same high standard as we see now in the city.
Come into Baba’s Kitchen.
Baba’s Kitchen opened its first restaurant on Bui Vien Street in Pham Ngu Lao on September 2, 2011. In Saigon, Babas revolutionised the way people thought about Indian food. It would also set a bar for customer service that few rivals today can match.
Robin Babu, the proprietor of Baba’s Kitchen, is to blame for this. Robin was born and reared in Kerala, which is located in India’s southwest. He relocated to Ho Chi Minh City to assist a relative in opening one of the city’s first Indian restaurants. He opened several more eateries in Vietnam and Cambodia within a few years. Robin then chose to create Baba’s Kitchen, based on his experience in the Vietnamese market and the encouragement of his friends.
